Fenria's Lantern is 12 pages of prose fiction, the first part of a larger story set in a fictional 1980s, one very much rooted in reality. And no matter how crazy it seems, reality was much, much weirder, as I have found during my research.
Satan was behind everything in the 1970s and 1980s. Just ask the parents, the journalists (the reputable and disreputable ones), politicians (and their wives), and far, far more people than you might believe would publicly and very loudly claim actual demons were in board games and popular music. Some of those people claimed to have seen the demons, to have literally fought werewolves, and to have escaped cults associated with the Illuminati.
The story is centered around Dynasty of Blood, a fictional TTRPG. Both it and the overall story came together thanks to a lot of influences, some from my recent reading of Satanic Panic, a collection of essays edited by Kier-La Janisse and Paul Corupe. I've always been interested in that time period and have started studying it closely. Similarly, I've always been interested in tabletop games and the communal act of storytelling they utilize, plus the pure fun and goofiness of the hobby, which I deeply respect. I'm a lifelong SFF and horror fan, so most likely you can see those influences as well. The visuals, gameplay, and world of DoB (adventure modules, setting information, and fiction are forthcoming!) are influenced by three main sources I adore: the Rogue-like game Caves of Qud, the Malazan Book of the Fallen dark fantasy series, and the fantastically weird Dungeon Crawl Classics. I'm also hugely inspired by the music of Heimat Der Katastrophe, which produces the best dungeon synth out there.

The second volume in the continuing saga of Dynasty of Blood, the fictional TTRPG from the 1980s. Set in Indiana during a weird time where the devil was blamed for any- and everything, this is an exploration of how roleplaying games affect many different lives.
Also, it includes actual play and portions of the fictional game itself, Dynasty of Blood! Watch out for character sheets, adventure modules, and setting information (maybe even the full Crimson Tome?), and perhaps one day you will not only read about Dynasty of Blood, but wade into its weird world as well!
In this volume, Beverly Walsh has reached out to someone she knows has direct knowledge of dark forces, the esteemed Dr. Elizabeth Riggs. Meanwhile, her boy Stuart finally finds Fenria's Lantern has coalesced and become real, he can reach out and see its light. Across town, his friend Callie plays in a Dynasty of Blood game with massive and controversial implications.
Dynasty of Blood, Vol. 2 is 13 pages of prose fiction with original illustrations by Luca Vassallo and duskmorte. This issue also features a peek into the 1980s tabletop game itself, with lore from the Crimson Tome, aka the judge's book, because in DoB the game is run by a Red Judge. If you haven't read Dynasty of Blood volume 1 this volume will make little to no sense.
Check out Vol. 1 first!

What happens when a player betrays another player in the same party?! Picking up where Vol. 2 left off, we join Yollander, Smixer, and Cert-Iss the First as they prepare to ascend Indier Mountain - with or without their entire party. Beverly Walsh begins carrying out the actions needed to protect her boy Stuart from the dark forces vying for his soul, scrabbling to enter his mind through the vile game, Dynasty of Blood!
Will Beverly's preparation work? Will the party reach Indier Mountain? See what more unfolds in this alternate history of early 1980s, when the Satanic Panic held America in its grip, and Satan seemingly held childrens' souls in one hand and a set of polyhedral dice in the other.
Dynasty of Blood, Vol. 3 is 17 pages of prose fiction with original illustrations by Zachary Johnson, Luca Vassallo, and duskmorte. There is a preview of the Indier Mountain location in the Dynasty of Blood campaign the characters are playing through. Portions of actual gameplay for DoB utilize mechanisms adapted and combined from Cairn by Yochai Gal and Shadowdark by Kelsey Dionne.
If you haven't read Dynasty of Blood volumes 1 and 2, they're available at pay-what-you-want right here on Itch and on DriveThruFiction. This volume will make little to no sense if you haven't read those, so definitely check them out first.
